Wellness Indoor Cat Food Reviews
Cat diarrhea after food change, which food is better?
Hi my 8 y.o cat is having diarrhea for a week after i’ve change his food (gradually in a span of 5 days) from Science Diet indoor to Natural Balance which is supposedly a better brand with good reviews (no by-products, high protein, etc etc). His stool is now part normal part slimy. It was all diarrhea a week ago. Should I wait another week? Or should I switch to another brand? If so, which brand is better, I do have a bag of Wellness Core and Wellness canned food, but I don’t want to keep stressing his digestive system by switching food too often. How long does it take for diarrhea to clear up?
Its best to switch foods over a period of weeks especially those with a sensitive digestive tract.
I would continue to feed the Natural Balance dry kibble and avoid introducing other dry diets into the equation.
Cats like consistentcy as do their GI tact.
If you mix it up alot ..change variety (flavors) or brands you can have problems ranging from finickiness to diarrhea.
Stick with the Natural Balance dry and add in high quality canned food.
You may wait until his stool firms up before introducing the canned food.
Males really need the extra hydration that is available in canned food.
Wellness canned food is good as it is high quality protein with low ash.
If his stool does not firm up within a week I would submit a fecal sample for centerfugation/giardia testing to rule out internal parasites.
