recommend canned food for cat with allergies?

I have a healthy 2 year old male cat who vomits a couple times a week. I’ve taken him to the vet and had blood and urine tests run — everything came back great, his numbers couldn’t have been better. I feed him Wellness grain-free canned food, with dry food only as treats. Aside from the vomiting, he seems in great shape — very playful, active, loving — and he looks in excellent health also. The vet wants me to try a prescription diet for allergies for him but I am reluctant both because I have a second cat (also in great health) and because the prescription diets seem like such crap ingredients. Anybody have experience with a quality, grain-free canned food for cats with food intolerances? I’ve also tried Evo–same thing. Thanks so much.

You didn’t say why grain free. I assume he is allergic to the grains. My sister cats who are 7 years old used to vomit much more than twice a week. My Vet who got me through twenty years of raising and breeding Persian Cats that I also showed at CFA shows recommended never feed canned food. He claimed that all a cat needed was plenty of fresh water daily and dry food which was better for their teeth and gums. If you can think about what they judge in a cat show you’ll recall that the teeth and gums is part of that. Anyway when my Persian days were over and I started adopting homeless animals that truly needed someone I got my sisters when they were 7 weeks old. They had been bottle fed because mamma died and were very close to me so you can imagine my dismay when they started vomiting. My Vet directed me to Purina One Sensitive Systems and they have been eating it ever since. They refuse to eat anything else. The vomiting has long since stopped, their coats are shiny and their eyes bright and they couldn’t be happier.
