Wellness Beef And Chicken
Why has my kitty stopped liking her food?
first time pet owner here. I have a 12 wk old kitten that has been eating wellness wet kitten food 4 times a day for as long as I’ve had her (i keep kibble in a bowl for her for snacks). wellness kitten food is made with chicken. I occasionally give her vitakitty treats, which are also made with chicken. lately, she stopped showing interest in wellness- after already eating about a case of it. so i got her natural balance wet food, which has chicken, duck, and salmon. no interest. then i got her some fancy feast- one beef w/ gravy and one flaked fish- she loved it! both of them! wolfed down almost an entire can at once! i thought maybe she had just gotten sick of chicken (is that even possible? do cats do that?) but she still loves her vitakitty treats. why isn’t she eating her healthy food anymore? how do i get her to like the good stuff?
It’s probably not the meat she’s tired of. Different brands vary so much in (I assume) scent and flavor that liking Wellness chicken doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll like Instincts chicken.
Your kitty, like many humans, prefers junk food. LOL
My suggestion would be to let her eat the FF for a while, but rotate the Wellness back in. Perhaps even try other better foods.
Another thing you can try is putting some FF on top of the Wellness, or use other bribes. Crushed kibble or things you know she likes. Don’t mix it in just sprinkle it over the top. Perhaps fish flakes would interest her if she likes the fishy foods. You can get those and other things like liver flakes at your better pet stores.
You don’t really need to feed “kitten” food if it’s a good food, but if you’re not ready to hear that, then try Evo. It indicates that it’s for cats and kittens.
Below is a list of some other good foods which would be fine for feeding a kitten. Just be sure it gets it’s caloric requirements.
And one more thing – it’s a good idea to serve a variety of foods. That way you’ll avoid having kitty imprint upon one and if later on you should need to change foods it’s not such a battle. I suggest rotating between 3 or so. Different meats, different brands.
