Scrawny kitten, how to increase appetite?
The kitten I adopted had a really rough start in life, she was found by a pedestrian in amongst a heap or garbage! Even after the SPCA’s care (they were so good with her, she is scrawny. She has been deworme), and is in very good health according to my vet, but she is very skinny, and I am trying to feed her up a bit. Not overfeed, but get her to fill out as normal kittens do. Or will it
You can see what she looked like when I got her here: http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/8951/velvetcgk3.jpg
She is absolutely TINY. 8.5 weeks old.
Currently she is on Wellness kitten kibble, wellness tins of wet food, and I treat her with boiled lean chicken and some lean beef as well.
I feed her three to four times a day, what am I missing?
Anyone have any thoughts, advice, tricks?
Hiya Unicorn!
You are feeding just the right diet, but you don’t have to feed lean to the kitten for snacks.Kittens need fat in their diet, and as long as you are not overdoing it, a little bit of fat will not hurt her. They also have high protein requirements. If she is eating fine, there is no need to increase her appetite. She also is recovering from a very tough life out there on the streets.
It will be time to have her vaccinated shortly as well. Check with your vet about a schedule for her.

Since she is so young, you might consider adding Kitten Milk Replacement to her diet. That may help put on some weight as well.
Sometimes worming once doesn’t get all the eggs, only the adult parasites. I would have her stools checked in another week or so, to make sure she is parasite free. It would amaze me that a stray would not be harboring parasites. Check that her tummy doesn’t bloat, which can be a sign of parasites.
It sounds that you are doing a bang up job with her. She is adorable, by the way.
Wellness is an excellent food. I am assuming you are feeding her wellness kitten moist as well as kibble.
I am sure it is just a matter of time before she fills out. If it were my kitten, I might be tempted to feed her every three to four hours at this point, until she gains the weight your vet recommends for her type and size.
All the best to you with your little one.
