United States Public Health History

united states public health history
What is your opinion–Will the USA fall or flourish?

Ive been learning about this in geography/social studies class. I thought it was so interesting, comparing the united states to Rome ; since Rome did survive for about 1,300 years. Based on these 8 issues:
Decline in moral values
Public Health
Political Corruption
Unemployment
Urban decay
Inferior Technology
Military spending
and Inflation

Do you think that the U.S.A will survive and flourish, or are we doomed to the Romans fate? Btw, this is mainly going by, will we flourish as a democracy, or will we turn to a dictater ship.

Back up your opinion. Im going to show these answers to my History teacher, because i want him to see what everyone thinks. He is quite fasinated with different peoples views on the world.

A decline in moral values is something that can neither be proved or disproved, because morality is relative. Both the Eastern and the Western empires were Christian by the time of the fall, and they are supposed to have had better moral values than their pagan neighbors (I dispute this, as would many historians).
As far as public health goes, the Romans were very clean and built public baths everywhere. It’s the Christians who were dirty and embraced a cult of dirtiness, and who shut down the public baths in Europe.
As far as political corruption goes, there is a list of all the countries in the world, revised every year (I don’t know who compiles this list, but it’s not the USA that does). Nigeria is the most corrupt country on Earth. Mexico and Colombia are awful. I think the USA ranks about 15th on the list of the least corrupt countries.
Unemployment was not a factor in the collapse of the Roman Empire. We’ve already weathered the Great Depression, and I don’t see anything as serious as that on the horizon.
Our urban decay, and the decay of our infrastructure, is something that is expensive, but we can do it – we can’t afford not to.
The technology of the barbarians was far inferior to that of the Romans. Roman technology had become fairly stagnant, but they knew how to make glass and soap and concrete, skills that were lost in Europe for nearly a thousand years.
Military spending has ruined many an economy and it could very well ruin ours. We can’t afford to have a mighty air force, a mighty navy, and a mighty army. It’s not very likely that we will have to fight another war as bad as WWII, and if we do have to, we can build up our military then.
We’ve never had a hyperinflation here and it’s unlikely that we will. We have government stratgegies in place that keep a tight lid on inflation.
