How can I get out of my job and still receive unemployment?

I don’t like working here, and they don’t like having me work here, so I thought about asking my boss for an amicable split. I would stay as long as they needed to find somone, train them, leave quietly, in return for unemployment. I don’t care about the insurance, I hate it so much I just want OUT, but unfortunately finacially quitting is not an option. This job has affected my health to the point where I had to go one disability for 6 weeks less than a year ago, and I’ve used my vacation time for the year. I have a mental illness, and I just can’t take it here anymore. I’m going to school, so I could focus all my attention on that and be done in 6 months.

state laws vary so check with your local unemployment office or dept of labor web site. if you initiate the separation (by asking for a lay off), that is considered a quit. if you quit for a personal reason (such as school or you just don’t like it), you may not receive benefits. if your doctor tells you to leave the job for health reasons, you may be eligible if you quit because you are leaving for good cause attributable to the work. if you are going to school, you may not be eligible for benefits because you must be able, available and actively seeking work – unless you are in approved training and you get a work search waiver. good luck.
