Teachers: About how many “mental health” days do you take a year?
I am a first year second grade teacher. I’ve gone into work everyday since August and I’ve worked through three colds — the last one was so bad that it hurt just to breathe. I taught until I literally had no voice left.
Today I woke up with a headache, cough and sneezing. My throat is also raspy. I found myself snapping at the kids, telling them to leave me alone and not feeling steady on my feet.
I decided it was time for a mental/physicial health day. I plan to eat ice cream, watch DVD’s and chill all day.

Youll be refreshed and ready to go upon your return. As a new teacher I took quite a few. I did do a stretch of 7 years with perfect attendance. (real lucky – no big illnesses) This last year I took two – my back was feeling it – spent the first waiting to see a doctor.
