International Health Grants Canada

how much would an international student gonna pay in the US?
hi everyone,
i have a little question..
currently im in high school in Canada and im gonna graduate this year.. i was planning of going to college in the US.. in California.. probably community college first then transfer…
i have families in the US soo i can stay there.. soo place to stay, travel cost, clothing cost, food cost, personal expenses cost is a no problem… and for the books.. i might buy online or rent it for cheaper price…
my question are..
how much will it cost me? (Subtract the ones above)
do i need to get health insurance in the US?
is there like a grant i can get to help me pay for my fees? if there isnt, can i get loan instead?
thanks in advance..
Several things wrong with the person above’s answer.
If you are not a permanent resident of the US and not a citizen (not sure if you are) you will NEVER be considered an ‘in-state’ resident, even if you live in the state for over a year while attending school.
If you are an international student (once again: if you are not a US citizen or permanent resident) all schools will REQUIRE that you have health insurance (usually through the school itself, as it’s cheapest) or you will not be able to attend class. This is one of the many requirements that international students must comply with if they want to attend university in the US.
Tuition depends on where you are going to school. If you attend community college, tuition can be as little as $2,000 a year (even for non-residents), state universities will average around $25,000 a year, and privates can be up to $50,000 a year, although most are less than that.
I usually don’t recommend that international students attend community college in the US since it does not provide the environment that allows a lot of social interaction with other students (since there is usually no on-campus housing and many students are non-traditional in that they are older, working full time, or parents). If you have family/friends over here, however they will provide the social aspect that you will need to be able to stay sane when you are going to school here.
Do your research and see what institutions are best and most affordable for your qualifications. Also, read up on the requirements for international students to study in the US. Keep in mind that as an international student you will also not be eligible for any federal student aid available by filing the FAFSA (this includes all federal student grants and loans).
