WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF ENACTMENT
*Uninsured adults with a pre-existing conditions will be able to obtain health coverage through a new program that will expire once new insurance exchanges begin operating in 2014.
When you have a program for people who ALREADY HAVE pre-existing conditions, won’t the benefit payouts be INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE?
Not necessarily. I have diabetes. I go to the doctor, get my prescriptions, my lab work, and I have my feet checked. That’s it. The doctor, nurses, lab technicians, receptionists, and everyone working behind the scenes get some more job security. The insurance has to deal with me once every three months to get my medications which cost them about $150. I only need to see the doctor annually. I am not draining their coffers. Neither will the 10 million more people who will be added to their pool. Remember that these people are still living and many of them are not actually on death’s door. This means that they will get the care they need and it won’t cost that much in the long run.
Also, the remaining people getting insurance won’t be doing anything other than giving the insurance companies money every month. This means that the insurance companies will be just fine. Don’t let the rhetoric fool you. This is a blessing for the insurance companies. It was good when the Republicans wanted it in 1993 and it’s good today.
