Health Insurance California Maternity Maternity Coverage

So what happens when you find out your pregnant and don’t have Maternity coverage?

Hi,
My husband and I found out we were pregnant in February, the pregnancy was unexpected, even though we did use contraceptives (birth control pills). Unfortunately, my health insurance cut me out b/c I didn’t have maternity coverage prior to my pregnancy.
So what do we do? We just moved to california about 1 month ago, and we both don’t work yet, so there is no solid income flowing in. We could try to apply for medi-cal, however, prior to moving we both made very good money in real estate in another state.
Will our income from last year and the very beginning of this year affect the outcome of us getting aprooved for medi-cal?
How does that work? Does anyone know of how state medical help works and how they figure out an applicants eligibility?

I would call your local Medical or Medicaid office and set up an appointment. Go for this appointment and explain the situation, You may be able to get Medical and possably WIC or Foodstamps for yourself and your unborn child. Most times they will make your husband go through a work program and try to help him to find work. I don’t think they would make you work, but that I’m not sure of in your state.
Make that appt Monday morning, and find out, that is the best thing to do. then you will have the facts and appropriate information.
