Can anyone give me some first hand information about living in the florida keys? rent,utilites,,jobs, etc.?

HELP! HELP! HELP ! We live in Columbus,Ohio and my wife has a job interviey in the Florida Keys, I,m self employed in the drywall business, but the move would leave me unemployed, I do have experience in supervision, business management, carpentry,electrical,plumbing, and also any type of general repairs and maintenance on residential housing. We are on a tight budget, the economy in ohio is very depressed. My wife is applying for floral management @ about $35,000 annual + with a health Ins package and she is qualified, but I assume it would be a very expensive move, we are both over 50, and this is a very,very important decision to make, We have nobody to talk to about this situation. I am open to ANY information that ANYONE can give me.

You seriously might want to travel down there first as this will be a pretty big culture shock. It is a pretty closed community (the islands are small); expensive, and limited in its own way but also a wonderful tropical island lifestyle; but limited resources for anything not in the keys (means a trip to Miami). It is a tourist type lifestyle as well; which may or not appeal to you; also pretty free-wheeling, if that is an issue, esp in Key West.
