Health Care Administration Degree

health care administration degree?

I’m wonder for people that are in the field what kind of job you can get. Also what is the basic pay for a starting out graduate? I’m currently a pharmacy tech so i do have a health care background so far. I was thinking of becoming a nurse but honestly i like how i don’t have much patient interaction as it is now.

People with health care administration degrees run hospitals and clinics.

People with public health administration degrees run county health departments.

Obviously, people with either degree can do all sorts of other stuff, but those are the primary target careers at which those two degrees tend to be aimed.

People who have either of those degrees, and who either are or used to be registered nurses (RNs), tend to be the ones who get the big administrative jobs in either private or public health settings.

And when I say “degrees,” I mean masters degrees. Undergrad (associates or bachelors) degrees in health care administration might qualify one to work in some form of hospital administration, but would not likely qualify one for a high-level admin position in a hospital. Of course, if it were a small clinic or something, then, who knows, maybe the bachelors would work just fine.

If you like pharmacy, since you’re already in it, I would, were I you, go ahead and get my PharmD; and then get a Master of Health Care Administration (MHA) (since the PharmD, despite its doctoral connotation, is nothing more than a six-year Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BSPh), but with a fancy new name which, as a professional (as opposed to academic) degree, its accreditor has the power to rename it; an so an MHA would be the next-level-up degree).

A person with a PharmD and an MHA might do quite well in the administrative hierarchy of a fairly large hospital or clinic. You’d certainly be the shoe-in candidate to run the entire hospital pharmacy (which, in some hospitals, can be pretty large)… maybe even be some kind of vice president of somethingoranother.

Plus, you could always be a actual pharmacist somewhere if that didn’t work out and you ever needed that to fall back on.

You’d also be attractive to pharmaceutical companies with credentials like that.
