School Announcements? HELP?
I’m on the school announcements. This is my last year at the school and I have been doing this for 2 years. However, it has been the same thing everyday. The teacher in charge thinks it is really funny and original to do cheesy things..like on Dr Suess day, she made us wear the cat in the hat hat and say “hats off to reading!” and she thinks its like a big hit, but we only get made fun of.
We go through the same cycle every week.. Monday we do famous quotes, tuesday we sing happy birthday, wednesday we do defenitions, thursday we do health tips, friday is a fun fact.
The thing is, it is so predictable, and kind of embarassing for me to do it because we just get made fun of.
What are some neat ideas that will make it interesting to watch, and different ways to mix it up, so kids don’t get bored and listen to us, but how can I also tell my teacher without hurting her feelings?
I dont know how strict your school is. I was the sole editor/cameraman last year for my school announcements. I had a blast. We didnt have any set “theme of the day” kind of thing. We were given the announcements, and were left alone in the studio to do our own thing. We filmed, I edited, and perpered the final file for broadcast. The tech teacher in charge of it just looked over it to make sure it was school-friendly. But we really did have a blast, and we made it funny to the students (The teachers..by the end of the year..kind of stopped turning them on though. lol).
For example, one reasonable thing we did was film the aeronatucal class launch off rockets they made. Playing with the speeding up and slowing down feature, and adding a catchy rock song made the video pretty awesome. Another time we filmed a snowball fight between the announcements crew in the courtyard (which nobody is ever allowed in :p). We did interviews with coaches before games, and when it was a slow week, would maybe just interview a teacher/worker at the school that was popular.
Usually, if we did not have anything incredibly funny or big, we would just open with a short, funny, intro skit. Got to still get the announcements in their seriously, though.
Now, i do kind of see what you are saying. No offence but your “days of the week themes” do sound incredibly boring. Our announcements were so incredibly random, that kinds actually really did enjoy watching them. Little things can make the entire show entertaining though. We had a spirit week, and one of the days was “who am i” day. One of our broadcasters dressed up as Michael Jackson, and talked like him the entire announcements.
Another skit we did was that one of the girls brought in a poster of one of the guys from twilight, and the girl broadcasters were obsessing over it, while the guys kind of just dismissed it. Then at the end, we left one of the broadcasters at the table, shut the lights off, than when they turned back on (using green screen), the guys picture was right behind him. Screaming, he gets up and runs out of camera view.
Another thing was after the american idol “pants on the ground” thing happened, well, you can say we had quite a time with that
Of course, if your announcements are live, than its pretty much impossible to do alot of these things. Our played the day after we filmed them.
As for the teacher, just tell her that this year, the team has a few new ideas that they would like to try themselves. Hopefully she will respect that and allow you guys to do them your way.
