Community Health Science Careers
How many years will it take for me to become a Physician? (Doctor)?
So I am already in a Life Sciences program in my high school which will already help me. The special classes in my high school for the program are:
-Lab Tech
-Exploring Health Careers
-Forensic Biotechnology
-Advanced Biotechnology: Cellular & Molecular
-Advanced Health Careers (Certified Nurse Assistant)
-Biotechnology/Life Sciences Senior Project
After that, my mom wants me to go to a community college for two years to become a Registered Nurse so I can already work, then I plan to go to Kansas University for Medical. Would I still have to have 2 years(Community college) and then 8 years(KU), so a total of 10 years of college? Or am I missing something that would help lessen the years, cause I don’t wanna be in college that long, hahaha.
(For Eri) Oh, oops sorry. The classes listed are just for the program. I’m graduating 12th grade with AP Calculus, AP Biology, would have already done Honors Chemistry and Physics, and everything I would need.
It doesn’t matter what you take in high school, but those classes won’t help you all that much. Bio, chem, physics, and calculus would help more. You need a bachelors degree and the premed classes to apply to medical school, and most med schools won’t accept premed classes taken at community college. Starting there will hold you back in more ways than one. A nursing degree isn’t necessary, and you will NOT have time to work, much less as a nurse, while attending medical school. Leave that to someone who wants to be a nurse. You’d need a bachelors (4 years), medical school (4 years) and a minimum of 3 years of residency (training in your specific field) to be a doctor. You get paid during residency, but not much.
