Community Health Advocate

How come people demand services from the local level but fear services from the federal level?
I notice that with Ron Paul winning debates lately, many people have fallen in love with the Libertarian idea of less government, but it got me thinking- doesn’t everyone want to live in the community of new houses that has public parks, pools, and maybe a clubhouse? Why don’t we expect this kind of thing on a national level?
We pay stupid amounts of taxes, so why is it that we fear Universal Health Care (in particular)as a “socialist agenda,” while we expect our city to provide things like firemen. Aren’t both a matter of life and death? If the fear is for our democracy can’t we just look at Canada, which HAS Universal Health Care AND a fully working democracy?
I’m not advocating for either policy, I just want to know why it is that people feel this way.
Local government is more in tune (supposedly) with the needs of its population. Therefore it should be able to meet the particular wants and needs of that community. On a constitutional level that is supposed to be the way it works, with the artilces constitution granting very specific powers to the branches of the Federal Government and giving the States the power over everything else as long as they don’t conflict with the Constitution (that is the tenth amendment). For the most part that idea has fallen by the wayside, and now we have a bloated Federal government that tries to tell the States how to do things. What Ron Paul is advocating is strictly following the Constitution as written. If the country has enough people to agree that the Federal Government should provide Universal Healthcare, they can amend the constitution to provide for it. If we don’t like the amendment process, we can amend the constitution to change the amendment process. That is how our democracy is supposed to be structured.
